The League Cup Group stage match against local rivals Ryhope CW took on more significance for the visitors as a RCW draw or better would see them progress in the competition, RCA having already assured themselves of a place in the last 16 with their win against Washington FC last week.

As usual for this competition the RCA Management team made a number of changes giving younger players more experience at this level and players returning from injury much needed playing time.

The teams lined up as follows:

SRCA:  Ezard, Allen, McNab, Lilley, Swansbury ©, Hodgson, Leonard, Croft, Moan, O’Neill, Gray. Subs: Dean, Callen, Green, C Davis

RCW:  Harkess, Walker, J Weirs, Riding ©, Jones, Trewick, Bird, Hotchkiss, Rae , M Weirs, Ellis. Subs: Winter, Pearn, Wallace, Devlin.

The Durham Challenge Cup paired us with Dunston in a re-run of the FA Cup fixture earlier in the season when Dunston needed a replay to progress to the next round. RCA therefore had a point to prove.

With Leonard cup tied the RCA management team brought in Josh Gray as a straight replacement. Sam Lilley replaced Ross McNab in the starting line-up and there was a welcome return on the bench for Clayton Davis who was returning after a long lay off with a Hamstring problem.

The teams lined up as follows:

SRCA:  Dean, Lilley, Allen, Preston, Swansbury ©, Hodgson, Gray, D Elliott, Davison, O’Neill, Callen. Subs: McNab, Ezard, Croft, Moan, Davis.

RCA returned to league action making the short trip to play League leaders Hebburn Town. The two sides met last month when RCA claimed a late point in a tight contest and more of the same was expected today. Hebburn remain undefeated in their last 7 matches.

Torrential rain just before kick off meant that the playing surface was slippy and ball control would be at a premium.

The expected RCA team changes after Wednesday’s emphatic win at Washington were made and the teams lined up as follows:

HEBBURN TOWN: Jennison, Groves, Carson, Donaghy, Lough, Spence, Taylor, Suddick, Richardson, Dibb-Fuller, Armstrong. Subs: Storey, Wright, Simpson, Martin, Robson

SRCA: Dean,  Allen, Preston, Swansbury (c), McNab; Leonard, Hodgson, Elliott, Callen; Davison, O’Neill. Subs: Lilley, Ezard, Gray, Dorward, Moan.
