Taylor Richardson on the attack during the second half at Brandon United.

RCA headed up the A690 to play Ebac Northern League Division Two side Brandon United in their first pre-season outing of the season.

Both teams had the usual selection problems, players still on holiday, new players recently signed and the smattering of "Trialists".

Bright sunshine greeted the players along with a very blustery wind which blew across the wonderfully prepared Brandon pitch.

A long journey south for the RCA faithful to play Redcar Athletic at their BM Bi-Fold ground. This was our first visit to the newly promoted Steelmen’s ground and a very impressive set up it is too and very friendly people.

The hosts have had a reasonably good first season, but RCA would be looking reverse the 4-3 defeat suffered at the hands of the “Steelmen” back in October last year.

The RCA management team was forced to make one change to the team who beat West Auckland Town last week with the injured Ben Errington unable to play due to a knee problem sustained in that match. He was replaced by Callum Patton with a slightly reshuffled back line.

The teams lined up as follows:

Redcar Athletic: Bean, McGuckin, Farrington, Woodhouse ©, Krakue, Brown, Clarkson, Young, Martin, Rivis, Walker. Subs: Jackson, Williams, Mitchell, Eglington.

Sunderland RCA: Marrs, Allen, Charlton, Jakob, Hawkins ©, Lawrence, Hennis, Patton, Davison, Annang-Colquhoun, Carr. Subs:  Johnson, Richardson, Mitchell, Bell, Herdman.

RCA welcomed sixth placed West Auckland Town to Sunderland LGV Park for this Ebac Northern League Division 1 fixture. The original Friday night fixture being cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch, the match was rearranged to the Good Friday kick off after both teams were eliminated from the League Cup.

The RCA Management team would undoubtedly be looking for a much improved performance from the lads after two disappointing defeats in recent weeks against Thornaby and Whitley Bay.

The hosts made two changes to the team with Max Allen and Nathan Lawrence included in the squad at the expense of Matty Weirs and Taylor Richardson.

The teams lined up as follows:

Sunderland RCA: Marrs, Allen, Charlton, Jakab, Errington, Lawrence, Hawkins ©, Hennis, Davison, Annang-Colquhoun, Carr. Subs: Patton, Winn, Bell, Richardson, Herdman.

West Auckland Town: Guthrie, Cobain, Hegarty, Scott, Potter, Brown ©, Wright, Thompson, Blinco, Nicholson, Fryatt. Subs: Harwood, Mitton, Coulson, Jackson, Dodds.

Taylor Richardson whips in a first half cross.

RCA travelled through the Tyne Tunnel for this Northern League Division 1 fixture against Whitley Bay.

The hosts needed all three points to secure their survival in the first division for next season while RCA were looking to bounce back after their defeat to Thornaby last week. The last meeting between the two teams was in March when Whitley Bay won after a penalty shoot-out in the Division one cup, so a tight match was envisaged.

The RCA management team made two changes to the team with Weirs and Annang-Colquhoun replacing the injured Patton and Winn. They also included on the bench Bell and Mitchell members of the under 23’s squad.

The teams lined up as follows:

Whitley Bay: Lister, Dick, K Errington, Yoxall, Lowery ©, Taylor, Dippenaar, B Richardson, Shanks, Orrell, Geliher. Subs: Morien, Cresdee, Anderson, Gilchrist, Ward.

Sunderland RCA: Marrs, Carr, Charlton, Hawkins ©, B Errington, Hennis, Weirs, Jakab, Davison, Annang-Colquhoun, T Richardson.  Subs: Lawrence, Johnson, Bell, Mitchell, Herdman.

Michael Annang-Colquhoun looks for a consolation goal in the second half of the match.

Today’s visitors Thornaby have had a very good season so far but travelled to Sunderland LGV Park without a win in their last five matches while RCA were undefeated in their last four outings.

RCA were forced to make a number of changes to the team who secured three points at Billingham Town last week, Winn, Hawkins and Carr replaced Allen, Weirs and Annang-Colquhoun.

The teams lined up as follows:

Sunderland RCA: Marrs, Jakab, Charlton, Hawkins ©, Errington, Hennis, Carr, Patton, Davison, Winn, Richardson. Subs: Lawrence, Johnson, Annang-Colquhoun, Weirs, Bell.

Thornaby: Hunt, Moore ©, McAvoy, Kenney, Frazer, Guru, Giroud, Flounders, C Hutchinson, Beddow, Hogan. Subs: Scaife-Wheatley, Pickett, A Hutchinson, Mitchell, Mazfari.

RCA made the trip down the A19 to play bottom of the table Billingham Town looking to add to their run of three games unbeaten. Billingham Town, on the other hand, would be looking for a result to give them a chance of survival in the first Division so a tight match was forecast prior to kick off.

With both Dan Hawkins and Greg Swansbury out injured the captain's armband was given to Mark Davison. Callum Patton, whose dramatic late goal last week gave RCA three points against Newton Aycliffe, came into the starting 11 to replace Hawkins.

The teams lined up as follows:

Billingham Town: Norton, Cann, Snaith, Painter, Beeden, Nelson, Harrison, Jatta, Close, Boyle ©, Rennison. Subs: Earl, Wilson, Daley, Harris, Murphy.

Sunderland RCA: Marrs, Allen, Charlton, Jakab, Errington, Hennis, Weirs, Patton, Davison ©, Annang-Colquhoun, Richardson. Subs: Lawrence, Carr, Winn, Johnson, Herdman.

RCA welcomed Newton Aycliffe to Sunderland LGV Park today for this Ebac Northern League Division 1 fixture.

Newton Aycliffe started the season in fine form until we managed to end a good run back in October 2021 and they arrived today on the back of a seven match unbeaten league run. They, like us, were defeated by Crook Town in the Durham Challenge Cup.

The teams lined up as follows:

Sunderland RCA: Marrs, Allen, Charlton, Jakab, Errington, Hennis, Weirs, Hawkins ©, Davison, Annang-Colquhoun, Richardson. Subs: Carr, Patton, Lawrence, Bell, Herdman.

Newton Aycliffe: Pickford, Green, Walton, Brown ©, Munro, Wood, Dibb-Fuller, Costello, Ardelean, Jarvie, Howard. Subs: Clarkson, Walker, Reay, Petitjean.

Sunderland RCA returned to Crook Town’s Sir Tom Cowie Millfield Stadium for this Ebac Northern League fixture, seven weeks after their 1-0 defeat to today’s opponents in the Durham County FA “Frank Pattison” Challenge Cup 2nd round tie.

The mid week defeat in the 1st Division Cup on penalties to Whitley Bay was a blow to the team and they would be expecting to produce a better performance in today’s match.

The teams lined up as follows:

Crook Town: Makepeace, Nelson, Myers, Fielding, Eckley-Aldsworth, Elgie, Webb, Hume ©, Thomas, Nash, Nicholas. Subs: Smith, Harrison, Forster, Hurworth, Moody.

Sunderland RCA: Marrs, Allen, Charlton, Jakab, Errington, Hawkins ©, Hennis, Guy, Davison, Winn, Richardson. Subs: Weirs, Carr, Lawrence, Annang-Colquhoun, Herdman.

Sunderland RCA extended a warm welcome to Whitley Bay for this 2nd round tie of the EBAC Northern Division I League Cup fixture.

After a lengthy lay off from competitive football, it was good to get back to some action at Sunderland LGV Park against a resurgent Whitley Bay team, who like ourselves are rebuilding with a new manager in Nicky Gray.

Work commitments and injuries meant a shake-up of the team was required.

Sunderland RCA: Marrs, Jakab, Charlton, Hawkins ©, Errington, Hennis, Guy, Patton, Annang-Colquhoun, Weirs, T Richardson. Subs: Allen, Winn, Madden, Herdman, Johnson.

Whitley Bay: Libotte, Dick, Smith, Anderson, Lowery ©, Taylor, Jenson, B Richardson, Morien, Ramsey, Gilchrist. Subs: Orrell, Lister, Beverley, Mirzkhanian, Dipenaan.

Recent signing Callum Patton on the attack during the second half of the match.

RCA travelled to play Newcastle Benfield at their Sam Smith ground in this Ebac Northern League Div I fixture. After the recent high winds which have blighted our matches of late it was a refreshing change for the sun to come out with no wind at all. Storm Eunice seemed to have decided not to venture into Newcastle.

The record of matches between these two teams shows that they have both won 10 games with 3 matches drawn over a period of 10 years. RCA narrowly beat Benfield earlier in the season in what was a tight affair which saw RCA come from behind to record a 3-2 victory.

The teams lined up as follows:

Newcastle Benfield: Grainger, McGorrigan, Haley, Slaughter, Turnbull ©, Renney, Robson, Glen-Ravenhill, Brayson, Walker, Scorgie. Subs: Salim, Gordon, Leonard, Gascoigne, Varga,

Sunderland RCA: Marrs, Weirs, Charlton, Swansbury ©, Errington, Jakab, Hennis, Allen, Davison, Annang-Colquhoun, Richardson. Subs: Patton, Hawkins, Guy, Lawrence, Winn.
