The final behind closed doors friendly prior to our Durham Challenge Cup tie on Tuesday, 13 April saw us entertain Sunderland West End at our Sunderland LGV Park ground on Friday 9 April.

An injury depleted squad saw the return of Larkin to play up front with Davison.

The opening 10 minutes saw both teams playing attacking football. RCA with the advantage of the slope took the lead in the 15 minute when Milburn drifted in from the right before firing in a low shot from the edge of the penalty area and past the outstretched arm of Bussey.

Sunderland RCA 0 Jarrow FC 0

Submitted by Rob Jones on Sunday, 11 April 2021
Tuesday, 6 April 2021 - 7:00pm

RCA welcomed Jarrow to Sunderland LGV Park for a pre/post season, behind closed doors, friendly.

Involvement in the Durham Challenge Cup maent that both teams were looking for some match sharpness.

Some 0-0 draws have you on the edge of your seat waiting for that elusive goal, this was not one of them.

The pattern of the game was quickly established with RCA keeping possession and attacking while Jarrow seemed content to defend deep and hit on the counter attack.

Sunderland RCA 5 Boldon CA 0

Durham County FA Challenge Cup

The Covid-19 pandemic has meant an enforced lay off for the team. Our first match since narrowly losing at Consett on the 31 October 2020 saw us up against High flying Wearside League leaders Boldon CA in the Durham Challenge Cup.

A much changed team from the one that faced Consett with six changes to the squad.

The teams lined up as follows:

Sunderland RCA: Dean, Burlace, Allen, Preston, Swansbury ©, Best, Leonard, Elliott, Larkin, Milburn, Carr. Subs: Fairley, Errington, Forster, Dorward, Armstrong.

Boldon CA: Hunter, Nolan, Bell, Attewell, Graham © Williams, McBeth, Wright, Wightman, Collins, Hutchinson. Subs: Strong, Lowe, Gray, Hoey, Graham.

The heavy and persistent rain of recent days had taken its toll on the pitch which, although it looked good, was very soft in places. A testament once again to the ground staff who have worked wonders in preparing the pitch.

Despite not having played for so long, or indeed because of that fact, both teams stated their early intent to attack at every opportunity.
