.
Sunderland RCA welcomed Stockton Town to the Sunderland LGV Stadium for this EBAC Northern League fixture.

Both sides were involved in FA Cup action at the weekend with Stockton Town coming out on top with a late winner against Billingham Town, while RCA were very impressive in their 2-0 victory over Thornaby at Teesdale Park.

The teams lined up as follows:

Sunderland RCA: Dean, Forster, Callaghan, Preston, Swansbury (C), Hodgson, Leonard, Elliott, Larkin, Hope, Watts.

The Emirates FA Cup

.
After a week full of uncertainty surrounding football at all levels and our specific injury problems off the pitch we were finally attending a much rejuvenated Teesdale Park for this FA Cup Preliminary round match against a much changed Thornaby team who have started a massive rebuilding exercise both on and off the park in the close season.

There was a crowd of 300 to watch the match and it was brilliant to see so many familiar RCA supporters at the ground with around 50 making the trip down the A19.

The ever growing injury list has been compounded by the withdrawal of loan players and work commitments which left 11 players unavailable for selection.

This meant that the side selected was one of, if not, the youngest team ever selected for RCA with an average age of 25. The management team brought Thomas Bell into the squad. Tom played in the under’17s team which won the league cup last week.

The teams lined up as follows:

Sunderland RCA: Dean, Carr, Callaghan, Forster, Swansbury ©,Hodgson, Dorward, Elliott, Leonard, Hope, Fairley; Subs: Watts, Ward, Bell, Armstrong.

Thornaby: Konstantopoulos, Roddam, Flounder, Drummond, Frazer, Taylor, Beddows, Kenny, Murphy, Hopson © Robinson; Subs: Hannah, Gardener, Foley, Rye, Carter, McGukin.

The teams took to the pitch on a gloriously sunny day to warm applause from both sets of supporters.

On to the teams for today, RCA had to make changes to the team from Tuesday night with Fairley failing a fitness test, Preston unavailable and when O’Neill pulled up in the warm-up another change was required. RCW also had injury problems with Winter and Price both unable to play.

Friendly

Two friendlies took place this week.

On Thursday we entertained Durham City at the Downhill complex.

It was a decent match against a very well organised Durham team.

A good goal by Mark Davison in the opening 10 minutes drilling in a low shot past the Durham keeper.

The game flowed from end to end with both teams playing some good football. As per usual anumber of changes from both teamns at half time.

The introduction of Colin Larkin for his first run out in a red and white shirt for over a season was a bonus.

Friendly

The first friendly of the new season and we travel to Birtley Town, the weather is kind a downpour two hours before the match and then the sun came out.

The pitch was in excellent condition and all the new Covid-19 restriction were in place. Players arriving with their kit on is a bit surreal as is the team talks taking place in the main stands or on the pitch.

Only a few committee men and the odd injured player from both teams formed the crowd.

A windswept Hillheads was the venue for this Ebac Northern League Division 1 fixture.

Neither team has set the league alight this season, but RCA would be looking to avenge the 6-2 drubbing handed out by their hosts earlier in the season.

The spread of the Coronavirus has meant that the “Respect” handshake has been suspended until further notice. The players, therefore, would be led out by the referee and promptly enter the field without the handshake taking place.

The RCA Management team minus the manager (suspended) made one change to the team who drew on Tuesday at Ashington, with Hennis returning to the midfield in place of J Leonard.

The teams lined up as follows:

Whitley Bay: Lister, Bexton, Martin, Bennett, Taylor, Lowery, Fairley, Anderson, Annang-Colquhoun, Robinson, Shepperd. Subs: McFarlane, Jennison, Davison, Olsen, Orrell

SRCA: Dean, Allen, Lawson, Hodgson, Swansbury ©, Hennis, R Leonard, Best, O’Neill, Elliott, K Davis. Subs: Croft, Ezard, J Leonard, Dorward, Slack.
