Managerless RCA welcomed our friends from Birtley to Meadow Park for this Duham Challenge Cup preliminary round.
Ian Smith took charge of team selection and made sweeping changes to the team that played at Guisborough, Carl Morris, in for the Carmichael, Bythway in for Wray, Gary Wood in for Brown and Matty Thompson making his debut replacing Wilson.
In a nervy start to the game RCA looked good in possession but were unable to find a good delivery in the final third.
The meeting between these two clubs just over a week ago produced a 1 - 1 draw and a similar result today would have been welcomed by the RCA faithful.
Team news was that Captain Gary Wood was unavailable due to family committments, new signing and ex Guisborough player Lee Bythway was working and Tony Coe was injured, into the team came Wray, Hughes and Lewis Wood.
After the weekend success at Brinkburn Road in the FA Vase it was back to league action for RCA against a Whitley Bay team who are unbeaten at home this season.
RCA were forced to make changes with both McNab and Lewis Wood unavailable due to work committments. Captain, Gary Wood failed a late fitness test and was ruled out, but is hopeful for Saturday. Into the starting line up came Garry Guyan and Kyle Morris.

FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round
Goalscorers: Barton (2), Jury, Price, Guyan.
The FA Vase 1st preliminary round was a welcome distraction from the rigours of life at the wrong end of the first division. A run of poor results, despite some very encouraging performances, have left SRCA languishing at the bottom of the table.
Having made his debut as a second half substitute on Saturday, Carl Morris retained the number 1 Jersey for this Northern League clash with Celtic Nation.
With Tony Coe unavailable, RCA reshuffled their team Lewis Wood moving over to the right wing, Horsman coming into the team at left back and McNab in a more familiar role on the left wing. New signing Garry Guyan was on the bench.
Whoever decided that a Bank Holiday derby match should be between RCA and Morpeth Town really need to get hold of a map or a SATNAV, there are certainly nearer first division teams who could be classed as a derby.
Also, I keep hearing people talk about player commitment, but on Monday, Lewis Woods travelled from Guisborough to Ryhope before boarding the team bus to Morpeth, played 90 minutes got back to Ryhope about 3.00pm before setting off for work in Brighton 340miles away. On Friday he will travel back after work in order to play on Saturday. This is true commitment to the club in my opinion.
