The Road to Anfield starts in Ryhope

Submitted by Colin Wilson on Wednesday, 14 October 2009

Sunderland RCA Barnes, the club's Sunday team, entertain Lobster FC from Liverpool at Meadow Park, Ryhope, in the FA Carlsberg Sunday Cup this Sunday, 18 October at two o'clock.

The FA's national competition for Sunday teams is a great opportunity for the Sunday footballers to get some publicity and profile for their part of the game, with the prospect of a final played at Anfield just a few games away!

Perhaps because the final is played at Anfield Liverpool always have a good representation in the Sunday Cup, while North East sides are few and far between, despite the exploits of Hetton Lyons and Coundon Conservative in recent seasons in winning the competition.

Sunderland RCA Barnes are again the only representatives of the Solex Sunderland Sunday League in the FA Sunday Cup this season, which means there should be a good turn out for for the game from the Sunday football fraternity. Lobster are one of the traditional giants of the Sunday football world on Merseyside, where Sunday football has always had a higher profile than elsewhere in the country, and former winners of the trophy, so it will be a tough ask for the young RCA Barnes side, but they have started the season well and are looking forward to the game. The match kicks off at 2.00 at Meadow Park, and full facilities will be available for spectators.
