Anyone who has ever met John Butterfield at a Guisborough Town match, will be as sad as I am today, on hearing of his passing at what is a relatively young age.
In February, John was diagnosed with a high grade glioblastoma which is an aggressive cancerous tumor that is life limiting. He was involved at Guisborough Town FC for many years, latterly as Press Officer, until he gave up the committee work to become ring announcer for an all-in wrestling circuit, assuming the stage name Johnny Green, in view of the vivid green evening suit he wore in the ring.
One of the nicest people I have ever met; football and the world in general will feel his loss.
