Club news 2009-10

This news will not come as any surprise:

Saturday's away fixture at Gillford Park is off

Sunday's Barnes fixture against Catholic Club is off

Sunderland RCA FC's match against Seaham Red Star FC has been brought forward to Tuesday, 26th January 2010. (Weather permitting).

For some time now Colin Wilson and I have been following the development of a terrific web site created and maintained by Joe Dixon. It records Joe's footballing years, most of which were spent with Ryhope CA.

Joe was at our home match against Hebburn. With a score line of 8 - 0 to the RCA, he's welcome back any time!

Already packed with a wealth of information and entertaining stories from Joe's time in football, the site's still growing as Joe unearths more.

Joe is keen to hear from people involved in local football at the time to help him verify facts and to fill out the stories. If you want to contact Joe, please send us an email by clicking here and we will pass your message on.

The Northern League announces with much sadness the death of Gordon Nicholson, its secretary from 1966-90, on Saturday January 30. He was 83.

An appetising youth football match is on offer at Nissan on Monday, 15 February in the Semi Final of the Durham County Cup. The kick off is 7:00pm.

Nissan, current undefeated leaders of the County South League, host last season's Youth Cup winners - our very own Sunderland RCA FC Under 18s - in what promises to be a cracking encounter.

Nissan won by the only goal in a recent league encounter witnessed by a very large attendance at Meadow Park. RCA will be looking to level matters and aim to book a place in the Final again.

Durham FA have organised an inter league knockout competition for County Sunday Leagues.

The Solex Manufacturing Sunderland Sunday League will be taking on the Gateshead Sunday League on Thursday, 18 February at Chester-le-Street Town's Chester Moor ground with a 7.30pm kick off.

Sunderland RCA The Barnes have four players chosen in the 15 man squad for this match, namely, Philip Hall, Jonathan Davis, Paul Hartley and Martin Metcalfe. That's the most of any team.

Solex Manufacturing Sunderland Sunday League 3 v 2 Gateshead & District Sunday League

Thursday, 18 February at Chester-le-Street Town

The Sunderland Sunday League, including four representatives from RCA The Barnes (Philip Hall, Martin Metcalfe, Paul Hartley and Jonathan Davis) and 'Sparky' Davison from the RCA Saturday side, won a competitive game against the Gateshead and District Sunday League on Thursday night to progress to a semi-final tie against either the Durham or Spennymoor League.

We've just heard from singer-songwriter, Bob Tiltman, who was born and lived for many years in Mariville West, Ryhope and always follows both Ryhope CA and Ryhope CW.

Bob's done a song called ‘Ha’way The Lads’, which is an entry into an online 2010 World Cup Song Competition. He's hoping the North East will be able to get behind this tribute song to the England Football Team.

RCA have a new team member, but you won't be seeing him on the pitch because his position is Marketing and Promotions Officer.

Over the coming months, Liam Dufferwiel will be working on raising awareness of RCA in and around the city in the hope of getting a few more supporters down to the ground on match days. He will also be planning and organising some events to get the club some local publicity and raise much needed funds for next season.

Liam's duties as the Marketing and Promotions Officer will also include obtaining sponsorship from local businesses and extending the club's membership scheme. Liam's very happy to hear from members and fans about any ideas to promote the club in the City, or raise money to help RCA be as successful as possible.

If you are interested in sponsorship, membership or would simply like to attend events, you can contact Liam at liamd85@googlemail.com, on 07717 572486 or on match days just come up and say hello.

After two seasons as beaten finalists in the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup, Sunderland RCA had mixed feelings about their exit from this year's competition. We are delighted though to be hosting the final, between Thornaby and Whitehaven, at Meadow Park.

In the semi finals of the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup Whitehaven defeated North Shields 5 - 4 and Thornaby upset the form book with a 3 - 2 win over Jarrow Roofing to set up a Cumbria v Teesside final.

The final will take place at Meadow Park on Wednesday, 5 May, 7:30 PM kick off.
