So we win well at home at last, thought it would never come! Only the second home win since well before Christmas, let’s hope it’s the start of a rush of home points. And a good display it was as well, after the usual hiccup to start of course. A few changes and Mr Bogie took his chance didn't he? Two cracking goals and a hard working performance. But he was a long way from the only one. Lewis slammed a couple against the post, when he wasn't being flattened, and overall I thought there was a lot of good stuff played and a very good attitude on show. Let's keep it up.

Not so happy an afternoon over the river mind. Quite a shambles in fact. Watching it on TV later I thought Sunderland's left back must have been sent off in the first minute as the Villa winger rampaged down the line. Never seen so much space. Poor, very poor, so no surprise that Mr Poyet did not survive, with the speculation from Saturday night onwards in the hostelries of the old town confirmed on Monday. And Mr Short has form in this area, he has been quick on the draw before, as Brucey, Martin and the mad Italian can confirm. It’s a bit of a dilemma right enough. Long term there is no doubt that to be successful you mostly have to stick with your manager for a few seasons, Chelsea and their millions being an exception, my old nan could manage them, but equally there is no doubt that you can get the old bounce from a new boss for a few weeks, and a few weeks is all those lads have. But who might it be? God knows. Doesn't seem to me to be much about, although of course Roy Keane was at the game on Saturday. One of my old mates will be having his usual tenner on Glenn Hoddle. He is a committed Hoddle fan. Or should that be, should be committed? Never understood the fascination myself, he is one of those players who has clearly improved from the minute he stopped playing. He was a better singer in my book. Seems to be forgotten now that he was rightly discarded by Saint Robson of England at the age of 29, to be replaced by the somewhat erratic young Gascoigne. Mind, he could play...

Back to the real stuff though, first of two cracking games in prospect against Billy Synners comes up tonight, should be a cracker. Can't wait. And I bet there will be no right wingers on either side getting a free pass down the line in this match. Not in the Northern League.
