A point at last, well done boys! And well deserved from what I saw through the netting. So on we go, many more to follow in coming weeks I'm sure. And the Lucky 7 is a rollover I believe, which always gets the locals excited, three figures is big money in these parts. Mind I can remember buying one of my best ever cars for £50, so it goes to show that values change over time. It had no seatbelts and little in the way of brakes, but it went well, as long as it wasn't raining, happy days....

I digress. Deadline day for the big boys yesterday, did our friends at the Stadium get Borini after all? Or decide on a Uruguayan centre half in the Liverpool sales instead? Alvarez? Welbeck? You will know all by now. There will be a few expensive turkeys bought by somebody desperate you can guarantee that. Just got to hope they end up in Black and White.

No such desperation at our level, you can sign who like, when you like, and many do, many do. I prefer to see a side built over time, with lads developing together, which is more what happened back in the day, when once you signed for a Northern League side they owned you body and soul for life, or at least acted as if they did. You practically had to go on hunger strike to get a move, so you might as well get on with it. It does allow fans to develop a relationship with players when they see them over a couple of years at least, and of course playing relationships can grow as well. The modern way however at most clubs now is to sign, play, move on. Must go through some training kits....

Have you seen much of the cricket this summer? Durham through to a Cup semi final, very well done lads, but my eye has been mostly taken by the fancy dress outfits at the England games. The fox and assorted huntsmen seemed to tickle Bumble's fancy the other day, evidently when the beer had done its work they actually staged a hunt around the ground, much to the amusement of all. Maybe we should push for a fancy dress element in National Non League Day this coming weekend. We could theme it club by club, miners for the CW, seamen for South Shields, Scotsmen for Celtic Nation etc. And for us? Why, raggy arsed rovers of course....
