Max Registers for another season

Submitted by Rob Jones on Sunday, 5 July 2020

Max puts Pen to Paper

We are pleased to announce that Max Allen has registered with RCA for another season. After being released by Newcastle at the start of last season Max was picked up by the RCA management team, thrown in at the deep end so to speak and produced some outstanding defensive performances.

Manager, Martin Swales is delighted with this signing “we are over the moon that Max has decided to sign for another season, he has the potential to be one of the best defenders in this league.

Assistant Manager Mark Cowan commented, " Max is a quiet unassuming player off the pitch but once he starts playing there are few better young full backs in the Northern League."

RCA New Signings

Image may contain: 1 person, standing, sky, grass, stripes and outdoorFirst of our new signings and we welcome Jonny Carr back to RCA. Jonny has spent the last 4 years in America playing for Hartwick College in New York and Lake Erie College in Ohio, where he captained the side in the league winning season last year. Being voted regional player of the year and then ultimately winning All American Player of the Year was a great accolade for Jonny.

Jonny told us “I graduated in May and came home for good, so looking to get back playing over here. I choose to join RCA purely based off how much I enjoyed my time there before and obviously I know some of the lads from that time and even some of the new ones, so I always knew I wanted to come back once I came home and back to Sunderland.”

Assistant Gary Errington had been keeping tabs on Jonny’s progress over the past few years and said “Once I knew Jonny was back home I was straight on the phone to see if he would be interested in joining us. He’s a great young player and had great success out in America and obviously delighted he’s back at RCA. He fits in well with what we are trying to build and he’s a kid with a big future.” Welcome back Jonny.

Club Just Giving appeal

Submitted by Martin Swales on Wednesday, 27 May 2020

Weʼre trying to raise £3,000 or the extensive electrical work required for the floodlights and clubhouse.

Please donate here.

We would like to start be wishing everyone well during these unprecedented and testing times.

As you will know, our season came to an abrupt halt in March. The club, which is ran by a volunteer committee and management team, have lost out on our main income source which helps the club operate and maintain the ground. With the integration of our junior sides [Sunderland RCA UNO] into the club next season, essential work and ground maintenance is crucial to the future plans of the club.

The financial implications of this lost revenue have been a huge blow to the club and has affected our plans for the extensive electrical work needed on the floodlights and the clubhouse in preparation for the new season.

Whilst we appreciate that families and businesses have been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, we still need to raise the funds which will enable us to prepare for the new season and have this much needed electrical work carried out.

The pandemic has also affected our sponsors who support us throughout the season and will certainly make sponsorship harder to come by next season.

If you're able to help us with these essential maintenance works, a donation of any affordable amount would be greatly appreciated, no matter how small.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Sunderland LGV Park and your support is, as always, hugely appreciated.

Please donate here.

Shildon match postponed

Submitted by Simon Mears on Friday, 13 March 2020

Saturday's home match against Shildon has been postponed due to concerns over the spread of Coronavirus.

Furthermore, all Northern League fixtures have been postponed until Friday, 3 April.

As a result, RCA's next four matches will need to be rescheduled - Shildon (home), Penrith (home), West Auckland Town (away), and Billingham Town (away).

RCA's next match is, therefore, currently scheduled to be Guisborough Town at home on Saturday, 4 April.

The Northern League statement can be read here.
